Novacaine and painkillers?

I'm getting a cavity filled tomorrow so obviously I will be getting Novocain. I'm also currently having some other pain (nothing to do with my teeth) and I was prescribed painkillers to take as needed. If I am in pain tomorrow can I take the painkillers before getting Novocain or is that dangerous?
